Top 7 mistakes travelers make before the trip even starts!

  1. Not downloading the airline’s app!
    • Most major airlines have apps you can download on your smartphone that will alert you if the flight is delayed or cancelled before you leave for the airport.  The app also allows you to check in, save your boarding pass and gives you gate information.
  2. Not checking in 24 hour in advance!
    • Don’t wait until you get to the airport to check-in for your flight.  This can cut your time by at least 20 minutes.
  3. Spend the $85 for TSA Pre-check!
    • It’s very rare that the TSA Pre-check lines are anywhere as long as the regular lines… plus you don’t have to remove your shoes, laptops and liquids.
  4. Bring your own food!
    • It’s no secret that airport food, whether from a grab-and-go vendors or a sit down restaurant, comes with a hefty price tag.  You should pack a snack in your carry-on luggage and grab a bottle of water at once you pass security.  If you get held up in TSA or your flight gets delayed a sandwich, cookies or fruit would really come in handy.
  5. Wearing the wrong clothes!
    • I could go on forever about this topic, but I won’t!  You should dress comfortably for the plane, but also be mindful of what all you have to take-off during the security check!  Don’t forget that planes are like movie theaters and hospitals… COLD!  Always have a light jacket and socks!  Skip the sandals and go for a slip on shoe that you can wear socks with.  Remember that the airport is a public place, PLEASE leave the pajamas at home!
  6. Baggage Claim is NOT the devil!
    • You should really take advantage of the courtesy checked bag at the gate.  This is especially helpful for those that have connecting flights and don’t want to carry all that around the airport with you.
  7. PLAY NICE
    • You know that saying, ” You catch more flies with honey that you do with vinegar” that also applies to TSA agents, customer service agents, cabin crew and your fellow passengers!  It never pays to be angry, indignant or whiny.  Patience and a smile goes a long way.
