I just got back from PVR with some friends, and this may be my new favorite destination in Mexico. I love that it’s not completely Americanized like Cancun. We stayed at the Plaza Pelicanios Grand Beach Resort and mostly got around by Taxi.

Plaza Pelicanos Grand Beach Resort was beautiful! It’s an all inclusive resort right on the beach, $100 (pesos) from the airport by Taxi and $65 (pesos) from downtown. All inclusive resorts are the way to go when you vacation, it takes a lot of the pressure off of you and keeps you from spending most of your day trying to find a place to eat or good deals on drinks. The breakfast buffet was delicious, especially the omelet station. Each morning you are able to sign up for a different restaurant for dinner and I mostly did a la carte for lunch! There are also snack stations by the pool and beach. There is an endless list of activities to do at the resort. Everything from kayaking to karaoke, from bingo to magic shows and water aerobics. I would definitely stay there again.

Downtown PVR was also filled with a lot of fun places and 2 for 1 drink specials. Most of the souvenir shops are around the same price so there is not much haggling in the stores, but when it comes to the street, beach vendors… I got a beautiful necklace that they originally asked $130 pesos for $50 pesos. It’s also better if you know a few Spanish words and don’t let them know it’s your first time. My favorite night clubs were also in downtown PVR. I would recommend Zoo, La Vaquita, Mandala or Roo. All of the clubs play a pretty diverse mix but Mandala and Roo are more upscale.

A big thing I recommend is getting pesos and not trying to pay in American dollars.
