Carrying money on vacation is a balancing act between safety and being able to pay for something without stripping off all your clothes to find where you hid your money!  Besides utilizing hotels’ in-room safes here are a few tips that I live by.

Tips:

  1. Half and half. – carry half in cash, the other half in credit… Then divide up your travel cash and credit cards into multiple safe spots.  This way if a bag gets stolen or lost you still have enough to get to the police station or your hotel.
  2. Keep small bills handy! – it’s best to keep small denominations of currency easily accessible! You don’t want to pull out $100 bill while paying for $1 souvenir.  There are always people in tourist areas watching.
  3. Trim your wallet! – Are you going to need your library card, business cards or receipts when traveling? Before you leave, take the time to go through your wallet and take out everything except the necessities.
